Neuromechanical Innovations’ Impulse Adjusting Instruments First To Receive UL Listing
NORTHBROOK, ILLINOIS, October 27, 2009 -- Chandler, Arizona based medical device manufacturer Neuromechanical Innovations (NMI), received the prestigious UL-Listing for its two chiropractic adjusting instruments, Impulse® and Impulse iQ® earlier this month from Underwriters Laboratories®, Inc. (UL). Neuromechanical is the first and only manufacturer or distributor of chiropractic adjusting instruments to receive the UL-Listing mark and among few in the chiropractic industry with such designation. Underwriters Laboratories is the recognized leader in independent product safety certification that has been testing products and writing standards for safety for more than a century. The safety giant evaluates more than 19,000 types of products, components, materials and systems annually with 20 billion UL Marks appearing on 72,000 manufacturers' products each year.
Neuromechanical Innovations’ CEO, Chris Colloca, DC reflected on the achievement saying, “The UL Certification process was a huge undertaking for our company, both in terms of the above-and-beyond effort of our team to meet their rigorous safety standards but also the financial costs of the process. Frankly, I think that is why there aren’t many companies in the chiropractic industry whose products are UL-listed. Ten years ago, we set out to be the leader in instrument adjusting within the chiropractic market and we wanted to set the highest possible standard in that effort. So, two years ago, we began the certification process by hiring consultants to train our manufacturing team and our entire staff. The Impulse Adjusting Instrument®, Neuromechanical’s first release, received its US FDA 510(k) registration in 2003 and has exponentially grown to now be in use in over 5,000 chiropractic offices in every state in the USA and over 40 countries around the world. Impulse Adjusting Technique Featured on WFC’s International Chiropractic Platform
May 15, 2009 - MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA - Dr. Christopher Colloca, inventor of the Impulse® and Impulse iQ® Dr. Christopher J. Colloca Adjusting Instruments presented invited lectures at the 10th Biennial Congress of the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC), held in Montreal, Canada, April 30-May 2, 2009. The Chandler, Arizona based CEO and Founder of Neuromechanical Innovations, a medical device manufacturer of the Impulse family of adjusting instruments and provider of post-graduate training for chiropractors was selected to represent Instrument Adjusting Techniques at the WFC Congress. Over 1,000 doctors of chiropractic and students from 38 countries were present for this celebration of chiropractic.
“Being selected to represent Instrument Adjusting at the WFC conference was a great honor, and a clear indication of the growth and acceptance of Impulse Adjusting Technique®,” said, Dr. Colloca. Together with Jim Gudgel, PT, DC, (Redwood Falls, MN) and Terry Peterson, DC (Mesa, AZ), Impulse Adjusting Technique® was developed to take the mystique out of Instrument Adjusting using evidence-based clinical assessment procedures to identify the areas of the spine and extremities that need chiropractic adjustment. “There was a time, say 20-30 years ago, when basically only one instrument adjusting technique existed,” commented Dr. Colloca. “So, in years past, chiropractors didn’t have a choice, but to learn a technique that was associated with esoteric leg check procedures to attempt to assess and determine the area to be adjusted. We threw out all of the whacky tests that were never validated and couldn’t be defended and emerged with an instrument adjusting technique that is based on sound clinical assessment procedures that make sense.” Colloca said. Impulse Adjusting Technique® seminars are taught today in most major U.S. cities and international hubs. Drs. Gudgel and Peterson also attended the conference and provided Impulse Adjusting Technique® demonstrations to the delegates. Over 250 delegates received chiropractic adjustments with Impulse iQ® at the Congress.
At the WFC Congress, Dr. Colloca presented an introduction to Impulse Adjusting Technique® in a technique forum that explored today’s leading chiropractic techniques, including Diversified, Upper Cervical Specific - NUCCA, McKenzie, Active Release, and Neuroemotional Technique (NET). Differences between the approach of Impulse Adjusting Technique® and other techniques were presented at the WFC forum, along with the differences in the advancements of instrument adjusting technology. Two, ninety minute workshops on Impulse Adjusting Technique were also provided to standing room only audiences.

Dr. Colloca has attended the WFC conference presenting his original research for the past decade at its meetings which have been held in international destinations such as Paris, Sydney, and most recently in 2007 in Vilamoura, Portugal. In 2003, Dr. Colloca’s research team was awarded the prestigious Scott Haldeman Award, the first prize in the international research competition for their neuromechanical research into the mechanisms of chiropractic adjustments. PHOENIX, Arizona – A new study published April 6, 2006 in the journal Chiropractic and Osteopathy (BioMed Central) has determined that multiple-impulse chiropractic adjustments can create up to 25% more vertebral movement than single chiropractic thrusts. PHOENIX, Arizona – A comparison of biomechanical performance among chiropractic adjusting instruments was published in the July/August, 2005 issue of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics.
